FREE MY WORDS
Free these shackles from my literary expression
No need for periodic confession
Let me speak of my oppression
Free my words
Take these chains to pull your weight
Don’t use them to demonstrate
Your ignorance and inability to relate
Free my words
Don’t gag me to keep from hearing the truth
Your actions are becoming uncouth
Don’t believe me? Let me show you proof
Free my words
If I wanna shout to the world till I lose my voice
Whether it’s to curse the Devil or to sing God’s rejoice
It’s not up to you, but rather, my choice
Free my words
Let me speak about expressions of love
The busy streets below, the gathering clouds above
Don’t stop me from talking about the coo of the mourning dove
Free my words
I’ve got opinions that I’d like to tell on politics
On what’s in the environment that’s making us sick
Don’t you wanna hear how some religions tick?
Free my words
The family needs to be told about everything vital
Let these words echo at a poetry recital
Let me talk some sense to someone before they become suicidal
Free my words
Don’t use them to demonstrate
Your ignorance and inability to relate
Free my words
Your actions are becoming uncouth
Don’t believe me? Let me show you proof
Free my words
Whether it’s to curse the Devil or to sing God’s rejoice
It’s not up to you, but rather, my choice
Free my words
The busy streets below, the gathering clouds above
Don’t stop me from talking about the coo of the mourning dove
Free my words
On what’s in the environment that’s making us sick
Don’t you wanna hear how some religions tick?
Free my words
Let these words echo at a poetry recital
Let me talk some sense to someone before they become suicidal
Free my words
have a fun day.

Aww thank you so much for the love! I appreciate all the comments you left. I would love to participate in Rally Week but my schedule is booked…keep me in the loop with that for the future if you could.

Dazza, I love this poem. I love that it’s free and it rhymes. And I love that you keep on the theme of freedom consistently, particularly ending it with the explicitly political and the familial. Good work! VW
